Village Life Along the Old Dhammazedi Road...a full day tour by bike and car

The Village Life Along the Old Dhammazedi Road tour is both an action packed, outdoor activity and a soft adventure tour. It’s doable throughout the year, but much greener and more adventurous during “Green Season” of Myanmar, from the middle of May to the end October. You will enjoy an adventurous 2–3 hour bicycle ride, visiting local villages and monasteries. You’ll also have the pleasure of sampling seasonal fruits and jams, and enjoy a traditional home cooked lunch amongst the company and hospitality of the friendly people of Myanmar. It’s suitable for those who are keen to do biking, and want some exercise. Although only 1.5 hours away from Yangon by car, it gives you the opportunity to see rural Myanmar and its people. This is one of the best day–tours that travellers to Yangon shouldn’t miss. Don’t pass up this opportunity to see the hidden countryside of Myanmar that most visitors miss. The Village Life Along the Old Dhammazedi Road tour is a community–based tour, helping villages to earn extra income and show tourists their peaceful way of life.

We visit a beautiful monastery and continue by car to Thakala. Our host family is waiting for us in this small town to accompany us by bike, boat, and motorbike or on foot (45 min) — depending on the season and the path conditions — to their community. Htee Tan village is a traditional village showcasing typical life. There is a village school, and a monastery that serves as the community centre. The village has no electricity, no running water or even wells. The village pond, filled during the monsoon season, is a focal point, providing villagers with water to drink, wash, and cook throughout the year. It is a quiet community where people have been living for ages, staying together in good times and bad times. A family style lunch awaits us, followed by a stroll around the village. In the afternoon we continue by car towards Thongwa to visit the lively market before crossing the river and arriving in downtown Yangon.
